Blackfoot Value of the Month: Kimmapiiypitsinni (I can show kindness)
Oki, Dadánast’áda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Families,
Reminder that This Week is a Short Week:
This week is a short week as teachers and support staff will be at Teachers' Conventions on Thursday and Friday. There is also no school on Monday (Feb 16) for Family Day.
Love, Kindness, and Compassion – Kimmapiiypitsinni
February is a time when we focus on kimmapiiypitsinni—the Blackfoot value of love, kindness, compassion, and caring for one another. At Piitoayis Family School, we teach children that showing care is about relationships, respect, and ensuring everyone feels included and valued.
Students are welcome to bring Valentine’s cards for their classmates; however, if cards are brought, please include one for every student in the class so no one is left out. To help keep everyone safe, please do not send candy, snacks, or treats to share, as we have several severe allergies in our building.
Classroom teachers will plan fun and engaging activities to celebrate both Valentine’s Day and kimmapiiypitsinni, with a focus on connection, kindness, and belonging in ways that are safe and inclusive for all learners.
Lunchroom Reminder
At Piitoayis Family School, we operate a school lunch program where staff are responsible for dishing up food, serving meals, and supervising students during the lunch period. The lunchroom is a busy and active space, and time limitations make it difficult for staff to safely heat individual lunches while also ensuring students are supported and supervised.
To help lunch run smoothly and to ensure students have enough time to eat, please send lunches that do not need to be reheated or microwaved. When lunches require heating, students may need to wait, which can reduce the time they have to enjoy their meal.
We encourage families to send foods that can be eaten cold or to pack hot foods in a thermos or insulated container, allowing students to eat right away while staff focus on serving meals and maintaining a safe, calm lunch environment.
Thank you for your understanding and for supporting a lunch program that helps keep all students safe, nourished, and cared for.
Attendance Tidbit
Regular school attendance continues to be an important part of building relationships, belonging, and familiarity with classroom routines and structures. In Blackfoot teachings, we are reminded that we are strongest when we walk together, learning, sharing, and growing side by side.
Learning From the Land / Spirit North
During some Learning From the Land sessions, we are partnering with Spirit North, who bring their expertise in land-based, culturally relevant movement and wellness experiences.
We are continuing to learn how to listen to Na’a as we engage in Walk-Alongs. Walk-Alongs invite students to use all of their senses to become fully engaged in the learning experience on the land.
- If your class has a Spirit North session: students will explore and observe at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
- If your class has an LFL session: students will explore and observe The Ripple
Please see your child’s homeroom teacher’s weekly letter for specific dates your child will be on the land for LFL or LFL/Spirit North.
Ask your child:
“Who is Spirit North?”
Physical Education
Our Curling Unit runs Feb 9–20 for all grades.
Please ensure students are dressed for outdoor learning and ready to move.
Thank you for supporting our shared work in creating a safe, caring, welcoming, and respectful learning community.
