Oki, Tansi, Umba-wathtich, Danit’ada, Aanii, Hello PFS Families and Caregivers,

I hope you found yourself nestled in the comfort of your home this weekend as Ol’man winter made its presence known to us. Here are a few updates:

PFS Bus Information

Did you know that we have 9 bus routes servicing the families of Piitoayis Family School? 6 buses are serviced by First Student Transportation and 3 buses by Dreams Transportation. We have 5 large buses and 4 small buses.

Smaller buses are equipped with seat belts for each rider and it is a legal requirement that passengers wear the seatbelts while riding the bus, much the same as riding in a regular car or truck. The reason that small buses require students to wear a seat belt is because the bus is much lower than a large bus and the zone of impact (in the case of an accident) is much closer to the height of the where students sit in comparison to the larger buses, where an impact with another vehicle would most likely go under the bus.

Please take the time to review safety rules for riding the bus with your child. Let’s work together to make sure all of our students arrive at school and home safely each day!

Pest Control

All parents received a notice that mice have been in the school. Pest control has been working onsite to ensure that learning spaces are free of mice droppings.

Pipe Burst- Middle Earth

Students in Grade 4 had class in the Learning Commons on Friday due to a pipe burst during the night. An emergency crew addressed the issue and children are ready to return to the classroom on Monday.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available for viewing on January 27 for parents/caregivers. You can access report cards through your MyCBE account. Please ensure that you read your child’s report cards.

Provincial Assessments

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 have been tested using the Provincial Assessments required by New Learn Alberta. These tests have been ongoing for the past 2.5 years and will continue to be mandatory for schools to deliver to students. This assessments were implemented as a response to children being out of school during Covid and the impact this had on reading, writing, and numeracy. As we track student progress, this is one of the main tools used to ensure that PFS is responsive to the learning needs of the child. It is really important if a child is absent to ensure that tests are completed upon their return.

Enjoy your week and we look forward to our time with the children (pookaiks).
