Blackfoot Value of the Month: Kakyosin (Be aware of your environment; Be observant)
Oki, Dadánast’áda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Reminder | No School
There is no school on Monday, September 29 (Non-Instruction Day) or Tuesday, September 30 (Truth & Reconciliation Day).
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Event
On September 30, we observe Truth and Reconciliation Day, a time to honour Survivors of residential schools, remember those who never returned home, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of reconciliation. All CBE staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (9:00-10:30 a.m.) at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site. This important event is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, CBE, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department.
To learn more about this event and others, visit the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day website.
Blackfoot Value: Kakyosin
At Piitoayis, we hold close the Blackfoot value of Kakyosin—being aware of our surroundings and understanding how our actions affect others. This value guides us in our daily interactions and reminds us that each choice we make has an impact on our community.
Working Together to Support Our Students
At Piitoayis Family School, we believe that children thrive when there is consistency between home and school. Setting firm boundaries, clear expectations, and consistent consequences helps children understand what is acceptable, provides a sense of security, and supports them in making positive choices. When these expectations are reinforced both at school and at home, students develop the skills they need to take responsibility for their actions and contribute positively to their community.
Our commitment is to provide a safe, caring, and respectful learning environment where all students can succeed. As part of this commitment, we expect every student to follow the CBE Student Code of Conduct, which emphasizes respect for self, others, and the school environment. Together, we can guide our children to grow into kind, responsible, and respectful learners who support one another in a good way.
Supporting Boundaries and Expectations at Home
- Set clear routines: Establish consistent times for bedtime, homework, and screen use so your child knows what to expect each day.
- Use consistent consequences: Follow through calmly and fairly when expectations are not met—children feel more secure when limits are predictable.
- Model respect: Show kindness and patience in your words and actions; children learn best by example.
- Connect school and home: Remind your child that the same expectations for respect and responsibility apply at both school and home.

Thank you for walking with us in this important work of learning, caring, and building a strong community together.
