Oki, Dadánast’áda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Parents and Caregivers,

Regular Attendance Builds Character

We all have days when we wake up and would rather pull the covers over our heads and stay in bed—children have these days too. It is important for children to learn that they are strong and capable of working through these feelings, and that they have a responsibility to go to school. Even on days when it feels hard and exhausting, we need to get up and keep moving forward—instilling this lesson in our children helps to build their self-discipline and resiliency.

Spring has Sprung!

In many ways it is shocking that we are already entering the month of May! A few moments spent outside observing the natural world help us to recognize this as a season of renewal, rebirth, and the promise of good things to come. Robins laying their bright blue eggs, warm and sunny afternoons, the rush of the Bow River, and the return of gentle rains remind us that Motoyi (Spring) is here. Motoyi is a busy time of year, please remember to take care of yourself (Nooh kaa too’ ksi katoohsi’it) and don’t give up (Miinoomattskoohsit). Embrace the strength and resiliency that are found in your family, friends, and community—together we are strong!

Commun-I-Tea & School Council Meeting

Thank you to the parents and caregivers who joined us last week for the student-led Commun-I-Tea and Parent Advisory Council Meeting—it is always such an honor and a privilege to welcome our families to come together to build connections and to join us in learning from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Value of the Month: Aksistoiypaittapiisinni

In the month of May, students and staff at PFS will focus on Aksistoiypaittapiisinni, which is the value of doing things independently. Our students have worked hard this year and have made considerable growth and progress. It is at this time of year that we consistently observe our students mastering skills they have been learning and see them take the reins to start transferring their knowledge and skills to new and different contexts. At home, encourage your child to take on age-appropriate tasks and challenges with a spirit of independence—help them discover how much they are truly capable of and celebrate their growth with them.
