Blackfoot Value of the Month: Atsiimoyihkaan - I can persevere and try hard
Oki, Dadánastáda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Families,
It is a busy week (and month) at Piitoayis Family School with several events happening. Please keep a close eye on your emails over the next few weeks as we communicate upcoming events.
IPP Signature Pages – Thank You for Your Support
Teachers will be sending home a copy of Individual Program Plan (IPP) for students this week, including a signature page. If your child has an IPP, you will receive a copy in a sealed envelope. Please review the document, sign and return only the signature page to the school as soon as possible (the rest of the IPP is yours to keep). IPP Signature pages are a legal document required by Alberta Education and we appreciate your assistance in meeting deadlines and aligning with provincial expectations.
If you have any questions about your child’s IPP or would like to discuss their goals and strategies in more detail, please reach out to your child’s teacher—we value your input and partnership in supporting your child’s learning.
Tobacco Planting Ceremony – Monday, June 8, 10:00 AM (Grade 5 Students)
On Monday, June 8, our Grade 5 students will participate in a Tobacco Planting Ceremony at the Inglewood Community Garden with Elder Clarence Wolfleg, Discovery House, and the Inglewood Community Garden. This meaningful land-based learning opportunity helps students learn through ceremony while deepening their understanding of reciprocity, gratitude, relationship, and responsibility to the land and community.
Grade 3–6 Science Fair – Tuesday, June 9, 1:30-3:00 PM
We are excited to invite parents and families of students in Grades 3–6 to join us for our Science Fair in the gymnasium on Tuesday, June 9, from 1:30-3:00 pm. Through a special partnership with William Yeung and generous funding provided by the Calgary Foundation, students have been exploring a variety of science topics, asking thoughtful questions, conducting investigations, and preparing to share their learning with others.
Students are very excited to present their projects to families, special guest judges, and members of our school community. There will also be prizes for participants as we celebrate students’ curiosity, creativity, perseverance, and hard work. We hope you can join us for this exciting showcase of student learning!
Kindergarten to Grade 2 students will have the opportunity to show their science learning and work in their classrooms to teachers, administrators, and guests on Wednesday morning.
Poyskinaksin Face Painting Ceremony – Thursday, June 11 from 9:15 AM - 2:45 PM
On Thursday, June 11, Piitoayis Family School will welcome Elders Agnes, Rose, and Delphine for our Poyskinaksin Face Painting Ceremony. This special ceremony is an opportunity for students to learn through Blackfoot teachings, protocol, offering, and respectful participation. Students will attend with their class during their scheduled time in the Family Room.
Consent forms were sent home by classroom teachers, and a PDF copy is also attached for families who may need another copy. Consent forms must be returned before students are able to have their faces painted. Families who would like to attend during their child’s scheduled time are asked to RSVP with the school office so we can plan for seating and space.
