As we head into the final days of September, we want to share a few important reminders and updates with our Piitoayis families.  

School Closure Reminder 

There is no school on on Wednesday, September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  

Orange Shirt Day Assembly, September 29  

Leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day on September 30, we will gather as a group for an assembly on September 29.  

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Event 

September 30 is an important day to honour Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and continue our shared responsibility to learn, reflect, and take meaningful action toward reconciliation. 

CBE staff, students, families, and community members are invited to attend the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event on Wednesday, September 30 from 9:00–10:30 a.m. at The Confluence Historic Site. 

This community event is presented in partnership with the City of Calgary, Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service, and Calgary Fire Department.

Thank You 

A special thank you to all of the families and guests who joined us for our Meet the Teacher Pancake Breakfast on Friday. With more than 250 people in attendance, it was wonderful to welcome new faces and spend time connecting with members of our school community. 

We would also like to thank the Batter Boys from the Calgary Stampede for preparing the pancakes, Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids for sponsoring the event, and all of the staff, guests, and volunteers who helped make the morning such a success. 

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this a welcoming and memorable community event.  

Blackfoot Value: Kakyosin 

This month, we continue to focus on the Blackfoot value of Kakyosin — being aware of our environment and being observant. 

At Piitoayis, Kakyosin reminds us to pay attention to the people and environment around us and to recognize that our words, actions, and choices have an impact on others. We encourage students to think about how they contribute to the safety, well-being, and sense of belonging of everyone in our school community.  

Transportation Registration: Confirmation & Cancellation 

Families registered for yellow school bus received confirmation emails the week of September 22. 

No action is required for families that will be using bus service for the school year. 

Families who no longer require bus service can cancel their registration in MyCBE by Wednesday, Sept. 30 with no financial impact. After this date, fees will continue to be charged until a cancellation is received, regardless of actual usage. Retro-active fee refunds will not be provided. 

Transportation fees will be loaded into MyCBE later in October.

Working Together to Support Our Students 

Children are most successful when they receive clear and consistent messages from both school and home. Predictable routines, firm boundaries, clear expectations, and consistent follow-through help children understand what is expected of them and support them in making safe and responsible choices. 

At Piitoayis Family School, we are committed to maintaining a safe, caring, welcoming, and respectful learning environment where every student has the opportunity to be successful. Students are expected to follow the CBE Student Code of Conduct, including expectations related to respecting themselves, others, and the school environment. 

When families and school staff work together to reinforce these expectations, we help students develop responsibility, self-regulation, kindness, and respect for others. Our shared goal is to support children in learning how to make positive choices and contribute to our community in a good way.  

Supporting Boundaries and Expectations at Home 

Some simple ways families can reinforce these expectations include: 

• Create predictable routines: Consistent expectations around bedtime, homework, morning routines, and screen time help children know what to expect. 
• Follow through consistently: Calm, predictable consequences help children understand boundaries and learn from their choices. 
• Model respectful behaviour: Children learn from the adults around them. Kindness, patience, and respectful communication provide an important example. 
• Connect home and school expectations: Remind your child that expectations around safety, respect, responsibility, and kindness apply both at school and at home.  

Important Reminder 

If you have not yet completed your demographic forms or reviewed and updated your information through your MyCBE Parent Account, please do so as soon as possible.

Student Pick-Up

If you are picking up your child instead of having them take the bus, you must let the school know by 2:00 PM Monday–Thursday and 11:00 AM Friday.

PFS is not able to make last-minute changes to bus boards.

Bus Information

What Can Families Do?

• If you are picking up your student, let the school know by 2:00 PM.
• Update changes to stops or addresses on your MyCBE account as soon as possible.
• Report any issues with bussing to the bus company and/or CBE Transportation at 403-817-7433.
• Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before your scheduled time.
• Review bus safety rules with your children.
