Blackfoot Value of the Month: Aksistoiypaittapiisinni (I can take on tasks independently)

Oki, Dadánast’áda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Parents and Caregivers,

Working Together to Support Our Students

As we return to regular routines following the recent teacher strike, we want to extend our gratitude to our families for their patience, understanding, and continued support. Times of uncertainty can challenge us, but they also remind us of the strength that comes from community and unity.

At Piitoayis Family School, we are guided by the Blackfoot value of Kimmapiiypitsinni — kindness, generosity, and helping one another without hesitation. A traditional story tells of Napi, who once scattered seeds across the land so that no single person or place would hold all the gifts of creation. In doing so, he reminded the people that only by sharing and working together could the world thrive.

As we move forward together, we hold onto this teaching: that when we come together with open hearts and shared purpose, our children, families, and community grow stronger. The days ahead bring hope, renewal, and opportunity to continue walking in a good way — together.

Reminder

Next week there is no school on Monday, November 10, Tuesday, November 11, and Wednesday, November 12, as it is Fall Break, Indigenous Veterans Day, and Remembrance Day.

Student Pick Up Area

We kindly ask for your continued support in helping us keep our dismissal routines safe and smooth for all students. Recently, we have noticed more parents gathering near the main entrance or entering the school to pick up their children. To assist our staff in safely supervising students and distinguishing between those who are taking the bus and those who are being picked up, we ask that families please wait in our designated pick-up area at the east side of the school, on the grass. Your cooperation helps us ensure that every child is safely reunited with their parent or guardian at the end of the day. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and well-organized school environment for our students.

Demographic Forms

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all parents and guardians who completed the demographic forms during the recent teacher strike. Your timely response has made a significant difference—this is the lowest number of outstanding forms we’ve had in quite some time. We currently have only 51 forms remaining, and this is a direct reflection of your commitment to helping us keep accurate and up-to-date information for your child. We truly appreciate your support and partnership in ensuring student safety and smooth communication.

Indigenous Veterans Day- Parents/Guardians Invited

We invite all parents and guardians to join us for our Indigenous Veterans and Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday, November 7, 2025, in the school gymnasium. We are pleased to share that Colonel Walker School (CWS) will be joining us once again in this important gathering. Together, our school communities will reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and contributions of Indigenous Veterans and all who have served.

PFS Monthly Awards Assembly

We are excited to begin our monthly school assemblies, where we come together to celebrate student success and highlight the wonderful things happening at Piitoayis Family School. Each month, students may be recognized with one of our special awards — including kindness, dedication to learning, positive choices, reading achievements, and even teamwork in caring for our shared spaces. The Golden Garbage Award will be presented to students who help keep our cafeteria clean and welcoming for everyone. Our first assembly will take place on Thursday and parents/guardians are warmly invited to join us as we cheer on our students and honour their accomplishments. We look forward to celebrating as a school family!

Have a great week!
