Important Reminder: The Impact of Punctuality on Student Learning

We would like to take a moment to highlight the importance of arriving at school on time and how it directly supports your child’s learning and overall academic progress.

When students arrive late, they miss essential opening routines such as morning songs, drumming, smudging, prayers, and sharing circles. These cultural protocols and daily practices are vital in setting a positive tone for the day, fostering a sense of community, and supporting students’ emotional and spiritual well-being.

From 8:55 to 10:35 a.m., all students at PFS participate in a focused 100-minute literacy block. During this time, they receive direct, explicit, and systematic instruction in foundational literacy skills, alongside opportunities to practice, reinforce, and extend their learning. Missing even a portion of this instructional time can significantly impact a student’s progress and create challenges in keeping pace with their peers.

Even a few minutes of tardiness each day can disrupt a student’s concentration, delay their engagement with key content, and hinder their ability to fully participate in the learning process. Developing strong habits of punctuality supports academic achievement and nurtures important life skills such as responsibility, time management, and respect for others.

We recognize that mornings can be busy and unpredictable, and we sincerely appreciate your ongoing efforts to ensure your child arrives at school on time. Your partnership plays a crucial role in helping every student begin their day prepared and ready to thrive.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.
