Oki, Tansi, Umba-wathtich, Danita ada, Aanii, Hello PFS Families and Caregivers,

PFS is excited to expand our circle as we continue to welcome new families. PFS welcomes all families to join us for a Meet the Teacher Pancake Breakfast on Thursday, September 12 from 9:00-11:30 am. Elders who work with our school have also been invited to join us for the breakfast, and we hope you will take the opportunity to meet them. Please bring a blanket to sit on for the breakfast which will be on the front lawn if weather permits—we will move into the gym if the weather does not cooperate. A special thank-you to the Batter Boys from the Calgary Stampede for cooking breakfast for us, and to Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids for sponsoring the event.

As PFS moves into the lunar cycle of the Deer Moon, Awakaasiiki’somm, when the deer are in rut, we are reminded that this moon is closest to the fall Equinox (next week). The fall equinox begins the shift in light and darkness, where the nights become longer than the day, and we move into the 7 moons of the winter season. During the story of Ksiistsikomm (Thunder), the seasons are shared, and Omahkai-stow (Raven) season gets the winter and brings with him the cold north wind and snow that blows away thunder down south along with the migrating birds.

On Sept 17, PFS invites parents to join us in ceremony to make an offering for the school community. It will begin at 10:30 am in the PFS Family Room. More details will be forthcoming. Berry soup and bannock will be served.

We look forward to meeting you this week as we continue to meet new families.

Hand to Heart,
