Oki, Tansi, Umba-wathtich, Danit’ada, Aanii, Hello PFS Families and Caregivers,
CUPE Strike
On Feb. 19, 2025, the CBE received 72-hour strike notice from CUPE Local 40. This means CUPE Local 40 will withdraw its services effective Monday, February 24. During strike action, CBE is prioritizing in-person learning. We are committed to supporting student learning and well-being while maintaining safe and welcoming school environments for students, staff, and families. All CBE schools and buildings will remain open and classes will continue. However, a strike will have an impact on schools and operations. Please make sure that children are picked up in unison with bus times.
Pink Shirt Day
In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!
Field Trip
On Wednesday, February 26, students from Ms. Karina’s, Ms. Lindsay’s, Mr. Isaac’s, Ms. Prabh’s, and Ms. Leanna’s classes are going to the Telus Be Brave Calgary Hitmen Hockey Game, an annual game during which students learn about anti-bullying. The game is located at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Students will receive a pink shirt that they can wear to the game and keep as a souvenir afterwards.
Invite | Indigenous Education Mini Round Dance
- Mark your calendars! On Thursday, April 10, the CBE Indigenous Education Team invites Grade 9 Indigenous students, their families, and their school staff to join the second annual CBE Grade 9 Transitions Mini Round Dance—an evening to honour self-identified Indigenous students who are transitioning from Grade 9 to high school.
- Hosted at Ernest Manning High School, this event will include a bagged lunch feast, Indigenous artisans, special dances, an honour song, and a giveaway. All CBE students, families, and staff are welcome to attend.
