Blackfoot Value of the Month: Aksistoiypaittapiisinni (I can take on tasks independently)
Oki, Dadánast’áda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Parents and Caregivers,
The school feels a little brighter today, as though it took a deep breath over the break and is ready to welcome our students and families back into learning and community. We hope your fall pause brought rest, time together, and moments of reflection. With Indigenous Veterans Day and Remembrance Day held during our time away, many families honoured the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who protected this land and its peoples.
In Blackfoot teachings, Aaka’pommaki reminds us to “give kindness and respect generously.” A traditional story tells of a young person who learns that real strength is not only shown in times of conflict, but in how we care for one another when we return home. Warriors supported their community not only through bravery, but through compassion, healing, and helping to rebuild. Service continued through everyday acts of care.
As we return to school, we carry this teaching with us. We honour those who served by continuing our work with kindness, dignity, and a shared commitment to supporting every child. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your care. We are grateful to welcome your children—and you—back for a meaningful and connected season of learning together.
Class Structure and Enrollment Update
As our school community continues to grow and evolve, we regularly review student enrollment, class sizes, and the complexity of learning needs within our classrooms. Careful monitoring helps us ensure that every child is learning in an environment that is safe, caring, and best suited to support their academic, emotional, and social growth.
In Blackfoot teachings, Aakakyo’tsitapi reminds us of the importance of caring for one another as relatives in the circle—that every person has a place, purpose, and responsibility to the well-being of the whole community. With this teaching guiding us, any decisions we make about classrooms are intentional, relational, and centred on what supports students best.
Over the coming weeks, this may mean thoughtful adjustments to some class lists--these decisions are never made lightly. When changes are necessary, we consider class balance, student strengths and needs, peer relationships, and the conditions that help children feel supported and successful.
Our commitment remains strong: to honour each learner and to nurture classrooms where students feel safe, capable, connected, and ready to learn.
If a change involves your child, we will connect directly with you to share details and support a positive transition.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership. Together, we will ensure every child is supported within our shared circle of care.
Hand to Heart,
Crystal Good Rider-Fox and Shauna Penner Principal & Assistant Principal
