Oki PFS Family and Caregivers

Reminder that Thursday, June 27 is the last day for students and it is early dismissal at 12:00 pm. Please plan to either pick your children up at school at 12:00 pm or meet them at their bus stop at the usual Friday meeting time.  

Students and Staff at PFS had a wonderful year full of exciting learning opportunities, gatherings, and celebrations. Here is a recap of a few of the learning opportunities and cultural experiences that happened during the 2023-2024 school year:    

  • Backpacks for all students to kick off the year with an Orange Shirt, an Indigenous book, learning tools, and a family gift card for groceries 
  • Walking trips to nearby parks to engage in land-based learning 
  • Intervention Groups for literacy and math  
  • Implementing 4 new curriculums: English Language Arts & Literature, Mathematics, Science and Physical Education and Wellbeing 
  • Tobacco Ceremonies in the fall and spring 
  • Medicine teachings and harvesting of sage and tobacco 
  • Dramatic Arts Residency with Trickster  
  • Naming Ceremony for Kyiiahpii (Spirit Bear) 
  • Commitment to Action to implement Indigenous languages in the school  
  • Field trips to Arts Common, Calgary Zoo, Calgary Public Library, Granary Road (all without fees) 
  • Equine Assisted Therapy at ROARR (Robinson Outreach at Rivercross Ranch) 
  • Grade 6 Overnight at Camp Chief Hector 
  • Food daily (breakfast, lunch and snack) and of course feasts at several events 
  • CommuniTEA events for families 
  • National Métis week celebrations 
  • Santa visit and gifts for all students and hampers for families 
  • Winter Solstice Ceremony  
  • Cultural teachings from multiple Elders & Knowledge Keepers 
  • Face Painting Ceremony 
  • Drumming, dancing, and singing every morning 
  • First Annual Community Resource Fair 
  • Open House for families joining Piitoayis Family School 
  • Teachings for National Indigenous History Month 
  • National Indigenous Awareness Week & National Indigenous People's Day Celebrations, including a Family BBQ 
  • Sports Day activities and fun! 
  • Kanoosiini and Boys Group for Grade 5/6 Students 
  • Weekly drumming with Darcy Turning Robe and Skip Wolfleg 
  • Supporting incredible learning and intervention to support a complex group of learners every day.  

Hand to Heart, ayyy, hiy hiy, marsee kittitin, siyisgaas, îsniyes, migwetch to the Staff, Parents, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Community Partnerships & Organizations that helped to make our year at PFS so special.

Mon-Thurs: 8:35 AM - 3:10 PM, Friday 8:35 AM - 12:05 PM 

Office Hours

Mon-Thurs: 8:15 AM – 4:00 PM, Friday 8:15 AM – 1:00 PM  

If you are picking up your child, instead of him/her going on the bus, you must let us know by 2:00 PM Monday - Thursday and 11:00 AM Friday. PFS is NOT able to make last minute changes to bus boards. 

Bussing Information

  • What can families do? 
  • If you are picking up students, let the school know by 2 PM 
  • Update changes to stops or addresses on MyCBE account ASAP 
  • Report any issues with bussing to the bus company and/or CBE Transportation, 403-817-7433 
  • Arrive at bus stop 5 minutes before your scheduled time 
  • Review bus safety rules with your children
