Oki, Tansi, Umba-wathtich, Danita ada, Aanii, Hello PFS Families and Caregivers,
Although the weather did not cooperate for the Meet the Teacher Pancake Breakfast last week, PFS looks forward to welcoming families on Thursday, September 26 from 9:00-11:30am for breakfast. Thank you for your understanding and grace! PFS would also like to send a special thank-you to the Batter Boys for working with us to reschedule this event.
On Sept 17, PFS is inviting parents to join us in ceremony to make an offering for the school community. It will begin at 10:30 am in the PFS Family Room. Berry soup and bannock will be served. Families can register by contacting Jodie Rivard at jlrivard@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-7860.
On Friday, September 20 PFS is humbled to offer another Face Painting Ceremony with Moa’tokii Elders Rose Fox and Agnes First Charger, and Delphine & John Pipestem, who are Horn Grandparents. The red ochre and buffalo fat used on your face is a blessing for you and your children. During this ceremony PFS invites families to apply for participation. PFS will not be opening this ceremony to all students on their own, it will be on a family basis. If you decide, as a family unit, that this is something you would like to participate in, your child will be called down from class to participate alongside you. Later in the school year, PFS will be organizing another Face Painting Ceremony where all students (with signed permission forms) will have the chance to participate as a class. Due to time constraints, PFS will only be able to welcome the first 30 families that email jlrivard@cbe.ab.ca. PFS will be holding two time slots—one from 9:00 - 10:15am, one from 10:15 – 11:30am. Once you have emailed, please wait for an email to confirm your spot for September 20.
Hopefully you are enjoying the last few waning summer days. Fall Equinox occurs on Sunday, a day in which the equal amounts of light and darkness remind us of the importance of balance. Sunday also marks the anniversary date when Treaty 7 was signed. We hope you plan to spend some time outdoors this week with your children and discuss the importance of relationships and promises.
Tuesday is September’s full moon, our lessons from Kainai call this month the Deer Moon, awakaasiiki’somm, when the deer begin transitioning for autumn’s changes. Hardening their antlers and shedding the soft velvet layer that protects the growing bone and cartilage. They are sleeping in the warm days, and are most active at dusk and dawn, protecting themselves from predators by finding food in the cold evenings.
Papa John’s is offering a discount of 20% off regular menu items for our families who order pizza online; use promo code: STUDENTCARD.
Hand to Heart,
Crystal Good Rider and Shauna Penner
Principal & Assistant Principal
