Blackfoot Value of the Month: Aatsimoyihkaanni

I Can Embrace Spirituality

Oki, Dadánast’áda, Âba Wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Families,

A traditional Blackfoot teaching reminds us that we are connected to the land, the animals, the plants, our ancestors, and one another. Spirituality is not only something practiced during ceremony. It can also be expressed through gratitude, respect, prayer, generosity, and caring for all living things.

As we continue learning about Aatsimoyihkaanni, we encourage families to talk together about the people, places, traditions, and relationships that help them feel connected, grounded, and grateful.

Provincial Literacy & Numeracy Screening

Beginning this school year, all students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will participate in literacy and numeracy screening assessments.

These screenings help teachers understand students’ foundational skills, identify areas where additional support may be helpful, and plan instruction to meet student needs.

Our Fall screening for Grades 1–5 will take place from September 22 to October 2. Kindergarten screening will occur in October. Families will receive information about their child’s results following the assessments.

If you have any questions or concerns about the screening process, please contact the school.

Meet the Teacher Pancake Breakfast

Friday, September 25 | 9:00–11:00 AM

We look forward to seeing you at our annual Meet the Teacher Pancake Breakfast!

Please note that there is no school for students that day, but families are warmly invited to attend and are welcome to bring their children along to enjoy breakfast, connect with staff, and spend some time together as a school community.

We are honoured to welcome Elder Jackie Bromley, who will share some words of wisdom and lead us in a blessing.

A special thank-you to the Batter Boys from the Calgary Stampede for cooking breakfast for us, and to Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids for generously sponsoring the event.

We hope you can join us for a wonderful morning of food, connection, and community!

Important: Student Health Plans

CBE asks families to inform the school of health concerns at the beginning of each school year, whenever a student changes schools, and whenever a health concern changes.

A Student Health Plan helps the school provide safe, consistent, and coordinated support for students with medical conditions.

CBE requires a plan when a physical or medical condition may affect a student’s attendance or participation at school, or when medication needs to be taken during the school day.

If your child has a health or medical concern that we need to be aware of, please complete the Student Health Plan and return it to the school as soon as possible. This may include concerns such as:

  • Severe allergies/anaphylaxis
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Medication needs
  • Other significant medical conditions

Please reach out to the office if you need a printed copy of the form.

Student Health Plans must be reviewed and updated every school year, even if your child’s health information has not changed. They should also be updated sooner if there is any change to your child’s health condition or medication.

Student Health Plan

Thank you for helping us ensure we have the information and plans in place to keep all students safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Hand to Heart,

Crystal Fox and Shauna Penner
Principal & Assistant Principal
